Policing experiences of people of African descent and the Brazilian community in Ireland
A new research project exploring the policing experiences of people of African descent and the Brazilian community in Ireland has been commissioned by the Policing Authority and focuses on understanding how these communities come into contact with An Garda Síochána as well as their perceptions and outcomes of these encounters. The project is coordinated by the Irish Network Against Racism. The research team have now concluded the focus groups, interviews and a survey and are compiling the final report. Research on behalf of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency in Ireland
We are the appointed research management team in Ireland (in partnership with Lattanzio KIBS, Italy) and regularly conduct desk-based reviews for EU FRA on a range of rights issues as part of the 27 country network at FRANET.
Current projects:
- Fundamental rights protection of persons with disabilities living in institutions: Right to protection from violence, abuse, torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment
- Criminal Detention Database Update 2024 – We are undertaking desktop research to update the existing FRA database, last updated in 2022.
We are proud to support an incredible new project at the Irish Congress of Trade Unions to develop training, capacity building and research to support the fight against racism at every level of workplace and union activity, right across the island of Ireland.
